Patagonia's Maipo
USA
champion black
2005 USA National Black Champion Male.
Now working in Europe
He has won colour champion at all the
major USA shows he has been in.
We've been looking for years for a
serious black male to match - in fleece - the quality white studs we
are offering.
Maipo comes from the only herd in the world that is capable of
producing such blacks -
Alpacas de la Patagonia.
His cria have taken black championships
in New Zealand.
|
 |
Pedigree: Sired by
Shepherd's Pasture Jericho, a medium grey, who comes
from grey lines. Maipo's
dam is a medium brown. These are
USA alpacas, as we imported him from USA in May 2006.
Maipo was born 14/06/04
and has been screened onto the registry as IAR 84444.
We expect him to revolutionise
coloured breeding in NZ, and markedly improve the
quality of black and grey alpacas in New Zealand.
In his three seasons breeding he has had over 130 cria, in the darker
colour range. He has given solid blacks from blacks, grey from grey, and
dark fawns and dark browns from brown dams.

 |
Fleece: Maipo was shorn in USA,
and his first fleece was 20.2 micron, 3.5 sd, 17.3% cv, and 1.3%
over 30. The photos of his fleece
tell the story. Look at that crimp. And his handle is fine to the
touch.
From black and grey genetic lines and without any white markings we
would recommend him for both black and grey females,
and would also recommend him ahead of most coloured males over any
dark pointed coloured females. |
|
Progeny: a grouping of Maipo progeny. His cria demonstrate
extreme density (for black) with fine micron and reasonable
character. Their heads are classic huacaya. |
