Coolabindi Highland Smoke
A very rare grey son of
HighlanderWe bought Highland Smoke in
Australia when he was just 6
months old in 2000, and he went on to win
his class in the large Ballarat Show
for us.
His progeny are making a quantum leap in the
quality of grey alpacas in New
Zealand.
Pedigree: Highland Smoke is the only grey
son of the famous Purrumbete Highlander, one of the venerable ancestors of the Australian
industry. Highlander is one of Haldane's famous "Cheruvians", who
established the quality Australian herd. They were in fact accoyo alpacas from
Don Julio Barreda's herd in Peru.

and temperament. All
matings are one-to-one supervised pen matings. |
|
 |
Highland Smoke is 50% accoyo and has huge density
of fleece, perfect conformation and presence, and great fibre
character and crimp, that he is passing on to his progeny,
some of which are pictured here.
Smoke
is achieving that difficult thing to
do - producing a high proportion of
grey coloured cria.
Over half of his 80 cria are grey.
He has been
placed in Sire's Progeny with his
grey cria several times. A pairing
of his progeny took 4th place in
Sire's Progeny at the large
Canterbury Show 2003.

third of his male cria, are now at stud themselves.
They include:

Kowhai Park Sterling Silver - dark
grey
(above right)
Glenron Warrior - light grey
Finchdene Fantastic - rose grey/roan
Greylee Pacas Star - medium grey

All have done well in the showring.
